Violin Button Doubling

Project Type

Photography

Date

April 2023

This violin's neck was broken off, including the "button" that supports the neck. The repair process included removing the broken piece of the button from the neck and reglueing it to the back plate, which also had to be separated from the body. I then cut a 1/16" maple plate to support the broken button and reshaped the neck block to fit over it. After that, I reassembled and touched up the varnish to match. At first glance you might not even notice the repair! I felt excited to get this instrument back into the hands of a local high school orchestra student.
